Relationship Management is important to build a stable line of communication with the families, teachers, and school administrations. In order to create a steady support system surrounding our students, we obtain updates from their teachers to synchronize our lessons or modules.

Supplementary
Education
We help bridge knowledge gaps by reviewing older subject topics, but in a way that stands out from how they originally learned it in school. Using gamified curriculum materials developed in-house by our teaching experts, we give our students a new and refreshing way of learning traditional subjects.

To make sure our students have everything they need, we organize fundraisers and supply drives to provide pencils, backpacks, and books. In total, Sparks Within Reach has raised over 3,000 dollars to provide our students with the resources they need both inside and outside of the classroom.

To ensure that our students learn in a stress-free environment, we incorporate enjoyable activities in our lesson plan such as Connect Four, Simon Stretch, and I-Spy. These activities during breaks help students build an even closer bond with their tutor and receive increased encouragement in their sessions.

We incorporate various games, videos, and learning activities, all of which translate over to remote learning environments to help our kids understand and enjoy difficult topics. This new and refreshing style of learning helps our students in their academic and creative endeavors.

Our team works to build close partnerships with shelters, motels, group homes, and foster care networks to better attune ourselves to our students’ needs, even outside of our program.
Impact
From the beginning, Sparks Within Reach has been trying to help everybody access education. As an organization, we have helped over 50 students through our tutoring and mentoring programs. Our team of over 150 volunteers have helped develop innovative and detailed curriculum, design social emotional learning programs, and taught our students lessons that go beyond the classroom. In the process, we’ve developed 6 partnerships with shelters and public schools in order to expand our reach. However, our work extends beyond tutoring. We’ve brought in over 3,000 dollars to raise supplies for our students, including books and backpacks. Our impact has been strong, but we know there is more to come. How We Train
Every one of our instructors goes through training modules to help them become better teachers for our students. Some modules include situations to educate our instructors on the overall issues that Sparks is working to mitigate. Our instructors complete sensitive socio-emotional training for topics such as educational inequity and homelessness.
In addition, new instructors will shadow a tutor-student pair for four sessions and take notes to better understand the dynamic between the tutor and student. It allows students to get a real-life preview of the sensitivity training and tutoring tips that the modules had taught them.
Finally, we gradually ease our tutors into the sessions to not overwhelm our students and better prepare our instructors. The recruited instructors will tutor the student that they observed for four sessions, while the experienced tutor provides assistance. After, the tutor and recruit come together to strategize different teaching methods together for the student. This allows the recruited tutor to get ample experience before beginning their journey with us and our students.
